Mason Community Arts Academy - Instruments in the Attic

Fairfax, VA

Instruments in the Attic is a Donation & Outreach Program of George Mason University and Mason Community Arts Academy that refurbishes donated musical instruments and give them back to the community through enriching outreach programs.

Through this project they provide Mason Community Arts Academy with instruments to loan out to community music programs.  They also supply instruments for community outreach initiatives, including Teaching Scholars and Musical Ambassadors.  Another of their projects, the loaning out of instruments to local schools in need, helps the band directors with sustaining their funding- challenged music programs.

Along with the Legend Leadership Award the Mason Community Arts Academy was given one of the Dale Earnhardt Tribute Guitars to use in their program.  Libby Curtis, Exec. Director says, “We were all very excited to receive the guitar and can’t wait to share it with our students and faculty! We can’t tell you how wonderful it was to learn that we were chosen as one of Dale Earnhardt Foundation’s Legend Leadership Award winners.  This will mean so much to our Teaching Scholars that work so hard to instill a love of music with the students involved in our outreach programs in the schools. And, this will allow for more instruments to be repaired and placed into the hands of these deserving young students.”
